Biomedical engineering firm Boston Scientific in 2023
increased its spending on U.S.-booked air travel by nearly 30 percent year over
year.
The company in 2022 switched its U.S. consolidated travel
management services provider to BCD Travel, which now serves as the preferred
travel management company for a significant majority of Boston Scientific's
non-U.S. travel as well.
Boston Scientific in 2023 continued to
support the transition to the new TMC, and also conducted a global air request
for proposals.
The company made no policy changes in 2023
but is assessing the possibility of global hotel rate caps as well as policy
surrounding premium-economy fares.
Boston Scientific has a goal to reduce Scope
3 emissions intensity from several categories, including business travel, by 55
percent per U.S. dollar value added by 2030 from a 2019 base year. The company
in 2023 also began to request its suppliers in several categories, including
business travel, complete a questionnaire about their climate and
emissions-reduction practices.
The company's net sales in 2023 increased
about 12 percent to $14.2 billion. Boston Scientific at the end of 2023 had
about 48,000 employees worldwide, up about 3,000 from one year prior. The
company in 2024 agreed to purchase medical technology company Axonics for $3.7
billion.
