2023 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $30 million
Consolidated Global TMC: BCD
BTN estimates that social business networking site LinkedIn spent $30 million in U.S.-booked airfares last year. That’s nearly double what BTN estimated the company spent in 2022, as the tech sector—including LinkedIn’s parent company Microsoft—put some fire under business travel spending again in 2023.
Whether LinkedIn will return to pre-pandemic travel levels, however, is hard to say. The company has clear carbon emissions reduction objectives and was managing toward that even prior to 2020. LinkedIn has partnered with its travel management company’s consulting arm Advito to use GATE4 carbon measurement methodologies and to bring those calculations to the point of sale for travelers with the goal of traveling smarter when it comes to company’s impact on the environment.
LinkedIn revenues in fiscal year 2023, which runs July through June surpassed $15 billion for the first time. Microsoft is making investments in the company, especially around the possibilities of applying artificial intelligence to the vast amounts of data the social networking platform captures. According to Statista, LinkedIn employed 19,400 people in 2023, down from about 21,000 in 2022.
