Pharmaceutical and healthcare firm Sanofi in 2023 increased
its spending on U.S.-booked air travel by more than 25 percent year over year.
The company completed an airline request-for-proposals
process in 2023, and this year has approached savings initiatives and updated
online booking procedures as priorities.
Sanofi in 2024 changed its travel policy to remove a
requirement for manager approval of traveler expense reports, as it instead has
deployed an AI-based service to audit them.
The company's 2023 carbon dioxide equivalent emissions
generated by its business travel were about 128,100 metric tons, up from 75,600
in 2022 but down 7 percent from 2019 levels. Sanofi has a Science Based Targets
initiative of a 30 percent reduction in Scope 3 emissions, including business
travel, by 2030 from a 2019 baseline.
To help limit business travel emissions, Sanofi's travel
policy requires the consideration of a preferred virtual meetings option before
travel is booked, and booking criteria is built into to the company's booking
tool. The company also offers high-definition videoconferencing equipment in
lieu of travel.
Sanofi's 2023 revenue increased 0.2 percent year over year
to nearly €43.1 billion. The company had about 86,100 employees at the end of
2023, down 4 percent year over year.
